Individual Song Information/Suggestions:
We’re Swamped: Two-part harmonic Country “Bayou” inspired opener. Solo opportunities for 2 or more.
The Swamp Stomp: Unison country line dance shuffle that highlights the frogs. Hope you like to “stomp,” cuz it’s FULL of them! Kids won’t be able to stop singing “Croak, croak, croak” as they leave music class the day they learn this tune!
Just a Little Tadpole: Tadpoles change into FROGS during this tender tune in triple meter. There’s a little bit of comic relief each time a new arm or leg is “grown.” One measure of two-part melodic voicing for effect. The refrain features two-part harmony but then adds a third harmonic part for the final chord! Optional solo opportunity.
You Can Fly: Sweet, uplifting tune about growing up and “changing.”
Frog in Your Throat: Who doesn’t love a jazzy tune?!?! This bluesy tune gives students opportunities to flex their animal/insect/amphibian/(you get it) sound making abilities with their voices! Quite fun!
Reprise: We’re Swamped Let 2 or more “new” students sing the solos!
Adaptations:
Pg. 41 The Bully’s line might need to be altered to say this:
- “Don’t worry, Tommy, if you(r voice) went through a change……”
Pg. 41 Butterflies line should also reflect the Bully’s:
- “Every (voice) is welcome here!”
Pg. 49 Heron’s line:
- “And if you’re ever feeling the need to (stomp)….”
If you’ve directed this musical, PLEASE feel free to share any thoughts and adaptations you did. We’d all love to hear how you made it your own!
