This is one of my all-time favorites – I think I’ve done it at every school I’ve taught at – some more than once! The kids love the songs. They have natural melodic contour that’s easy to learn. There is so much room for creativity with this program – from props to choreography to costumes to flexibility in solos/dialogue. I love that you can be successful with it, no matter how simple or complex you decide to tailor it – and the audiences will EAT IT UP!

Scenery:  Very flexible – none is necessary, or you could go all-out with an ocean theme

Props: None are imperative; however, at the very least, I like to use colored streamers/wands/scarves for Colors of the Sea and stick horses for Roundup Under the Sea.

Costumes:  All characters should have some costume to easily identify them, but it could be as simple as neck signs. There are costume suggestions in the back for those that want something more detailed – either independently or with parent assistance.

Individual Song Information/Suggestions:

Oceans of Fun: Very upbeat, catchy opener

We’re Sharks:  Always a student and audience favorite! This song gives characters a chance to shine on the raps – and a “cool” grab for those boys who think they are too cool for the pool! This one will get them every time – hook, line, and sinker! (get it?)

Commotion in the Ocean: If you have a group of particularly strong “actors” (read: HAMS!), then this is your show, and this is their song! There are two lead joke-tellers, plus room for more.

Roundup Under the Sea:  If you have some great dancers, here’s a chance to feature a small group as the Seahorse square dancers, plus a strong actor as the Caller.

Colors of the Sea: Tuneful, lovely ballad – add some colorful ribbons or scarves, and it’s visually beautiful, too!
